The Learning Sanctuary
At SHBC, we know life can be pretty hard to juggle with the demands of church, family, work, school, and activities. That’s why we have designed a place to help your family this fall as your students return to school.
Whether your student is learning virtually or partially in-school and at-home, we want to provide a safe, caring, and supportive environment to help them learn and succeed.
We have created the Learning Sanctuary to support parents who work full time and need care for their learning students. The Learning Sanctuary is a FREE childcare program for kids in grades K-6, Monday-Friday, 8:00 am - 3:30 pm. All students attending will be accepted through a registration process and reservation due to limited spots.
You'll find a place of...
Students can be dropped off each day and given a workstation to complete their school’s daily assignments. Volunteers will offer assistance with virtual learning, help with assignments, and encourage students to stay focused on their school work.
* Please note our volunteers will not be teaching subject matter, but rather assisting your child through their own coursework that is provided by the classroom teacher.
Your child’s safety and health are so important to us. That is why we are offering socially-distant learning stations for each child. All materials used will be their own. The building and all surfaces will be cleaned daily. Temperature checks will be taken at the door each day before entry for all volunteer staff and students. Also, all students will check-in through our check-in badging system, which provides a badge for the parent to return prior to the child leaving our care.
*Please see our learning waiver and liability form below for information concerning protocols and policies for attending students.
At SHBC, we “Start With Love.” That will be no different for our weekday Learning Sanctuary. We will offer love, care, encouragement, and support to your students to help them succeed! All volunteers have been background checked and trained to provide the best care to your students.
*Please see our policies regarding student expectations below.
When they are not learning virtually, students will be provided with fun and engaging activities. Activities include:
- Daily Devotionals
- Destination Imagination
- Art Projects
- Outdoor recess
- Hobby Day
- Talent Shows

Home School Support for Parents
Homeschooling this year? For the first time? Would you love some support and advice along the way? Each week, we will offer small workshops in person and through Zoom for families who are homeschooling, led by Andrea Herold. She will provide tips and lessons for subject matter, solutions on how to help different kinds of learners, and skills for best practices for homeschooling.
Andrea is a part of many larger networkers of families who also homeschool their kids with a faith emphasis. She hopes to help equip you and assist as many families as she can so that you can have a successful year homeschooling your children! Workshop days and times are TBD.
